"What the caterpillar calls the end of life, wise men call a butterfly."
mind numbing
The US economy and military depends on America having a sizable lead in technology, but it's no secret students here lag behind young people from other countries in areas such as the basic sciences. People having been wringing their hands over the low test scores for as long as I can remember yet somehow the US has either attracted the talent or grown enough talent to stay ahead.
Then along came "No Child Left Behind" with its emphasis on test scores and 'accountability.' I've talked with teachers and administrators at my kids' schools and they uniformly detest it, but that's another story.
A friend sent me an article over the weekend from Forbes, and one factoid jumped out at me: "A more immediate worry was President George W. Bush's proposed education budget for fiscal 2006. The budget, released in February, proposes eliminating a program known as Enhancing Education Through Technology. Created as part of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, EETT doles out grants for integrating technology into schools."
Add one more unbelievable to the list of Shrub's accomplishments! He's cutting funding for the most vital part of our technology future?! Since I'm so numbed by his stupidity, I'll stop there, but you can be sure I've got a lot more to say about the subject!
