Important message from Anne Derryberry
I received this from a friend this morning and wanted to pass it along to all of you - good luck Anne and Tom!
Anne Derryberry and Tom Osborne are pleased to announce the launch of the non-profit organization, Engage America. Engage America was born out of an alarming trend: Americans – particularly progressives – aren’t voting. 68% of American adults support one or more of the 20,000 grassroots organizations in this country. In spite of the monetary and volunteer support that these good-hearted Americans provide, 40% of them vote less than 50% of the time. 15% aren’t even registered to vote.
Engage America is building the directory of progressive citizens and an associated Internet-based communications platform to reach those infrequent voters. We intend to increase progressive voter participation by some 500,000 Americans in 2004 alone.
Please visit our website, www.engageamerica.org, to learn about our work, particularly our statewide voter participation projects. And don’t forget to visit the How to Make a Donation page (yes, we take donations online - www.engageamerica.org/ge_donation.html) – we can’t complete our critical mission without the support of our friends, and every little bit is a big help. By the way, feel free to forward this message to all the people in your address book.
Above all, don’t forget to vote. Remember - Democracy is not a spectator sport.
