If I was a conspiracy theorist, I'd be wondering just about now why domestic gas
prices are going through the roof. Who stands to benefit from consumer outrage
at having to pay $3.00 a gallon at the pump?

Would you believe Bush and the oil companies do? I haven't checked this out, but
I suspect that oil companies are seeing record profits at the same time
consumers are seeing record prices. That's the business side. But what about the
political side?

Well, since the Press has turned into Shrub's lapdog, we probably won't see many
investigative reports about it, but I'll wager that Dubya and his friends stand
to capitalize on higher gas prices as well. As you know, W. wants to allow oil
companies to drill on Federal lands - some of which are wildlife reserves. What
better way to sway public opinion towards allowing drilling than hitting them in
the pocket at the gas pump. Just tell Joe six-pack that allowing drilling
off-shore or in an Alaskan wildlife preserve will lower pump prices and he'll drink
up that lie faster than the Buds in both his hands.

What pathetic sheep we have become - slaves to our SUVs...
